I was really unlucky as I couldnt breast feed my daughter for very long. I think its up to the individual as to how long and when you stop feeling comfortable breastfeeding your child.

I breast fed my son for 5 months and daughter for 3 months and then the bottle of formula.  My son slept 8 hrs after the 4 months and he is still a great sleeper. He was a text book baby who's development progressed as mentioned in the baby book I read.  Both children loved sleeping and I made sure they slept through noise so even to this day I could be vaccuming at 11pm at night and they dont wake? p.s he's 25 and shes 13. I belive no matter if you breast feed or bottle feed - all you worry aboout is that they are putting on gradual weight, have a restful 8 hrs sleep so they can grow up well adjusted, as my mother said "let them sleep as they grow when they sleep" and " if they want to eat then don't stop them"?

I had issues too, so you might say my son was almost exclusively formula-fed and was on solids at 4m.  Sad, really.  I so wanted to bf.

I was 32 years old when my son was born.  He is now almost13 years old and tall for his age.  I breastfed him for 5 years.  The
only reason I've decided to stop was because we need to travel
and bring him to his maternal grandparents.

I've asked our family doctors for some pills to be taken orally to stop the milk.  But he told me not to give him my milk for one week and the flow will stop automatically.  It did not!  Actually it was like tag and play! he ask, I resist.  It took one month to
finally weaned him with lots of crying from both parts.  My
husband doesn't know if he will pity both of us or one or the
other.

He was such a gorgeous very beautiful baby boy with those
big hazelnut eyes and very kissable lips.  He sleeps easily
the whole night and never bother to have tantrum and a very healthy one indeed!  We love him!

I breastfed for 10 months. I had planned to wait until 12 months and then think about whether or not to wean then, but at 10 months my daughter decided it was her time and flat out refused to breastfeed!
