How did you celebrate your little one's first birthday?

With my daughter, we had a lunch in the park, but my son's birthday is mid winter so I'm stuck!

We had a party at home in the backyard for my son's first (and second!) birthday. To be honest it was mainly adults drinking champagne and eating chocolate crackles and fairy bread! It was spring time so the weather was lovely.

We had a little party on the deck at home - it was late autumn and really lovely out.  I made shedloads of food and we just had champagne, tea and coffee.  There was only one other child there and 12 adults, so just a big afternoon tea really.  Just with helium balloons tied around the balustrades and a happy birthday banner.

The first birthday's really for the adults anyway - I don't think the kids remember it!  Or not for long anyway.

If you are going to have lots of kids, could you go to an indoor play centre with a baby/toddler area as well?

We had his naming day on the same day, so we hired a function room at the new library/community centre.  It was fabulous!!

We did the same as Lulu, we held DS2 christening and birthday party on the same day.

For DS1 we just had a party in the park.

We had a brunch in the backyard with only family and the God-parents. My mum made a great Humpty Dumpty cake and we celebrated the occasion without too much fuss. I think for the first birthday that was enough. Otherwise it can be all too overwhelming... The morning party was great, because people arrived just after my son woke up from his morning nap and he was happy for the rest of the party.

Well, I am happy to report that I found a venue. There is a community hall around 15 minutes from us with a playgroup. They rent out their room and toys plus they have a garden with a fenced playground. It was only $80 for the afternoon too, with kitchen use!! I am still hoping for nice weather so the kids can be outside but this will be enough space inside if needs be.
