It’s official – pester power now applies to household sustainability. According to a new study by Kleenex Cottonelle – the Make a Difference report, nearly half (46 per cent) of Australian mums say their children most influence them when it comes to being more sustainable, e.g. choosing products, saving energy and reducing waste.
Polling over 1250 Australian mums, the study identified that while eight in 10 mums wish they could be sustainable more often, one in 5 said that their children seem to know more about them when it comes to green issues.

The findings show that key sustainability drivers for mums are to provide a better future for their family, and save money in the home (cited by a third respectively). However, over half (51 per cent) of Aussie mums said they don’t know where to start.
To make a difference we don’t need to reinvent the wheel: there are lots of things that we can all do easily as part of a daily routine, as it’s often about breaking habits — like changing your choice of something as small and everyday as toilet roll.

Small changes, such as choosing sustainable products in your weekly shop, can make a big impact. And the more we do (and encourage our kids to do too), the bigger impact we can make.
