According to several reports, Nicole Kidman's father Dr Antony Kidman has died suddenly after a fall during a trip to Singapore.
The respected psychologist and Director of the Health Psychology Unit at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital, was believed to be in Singapore visiting his youngest daughter Antonia, who lives there with her husband Craig Marran and her six children.
"Nicole and her family are in shock by the sudden death of her father. She appreciates the outpouring of support and kindly requests privacy during this very difficult time," Nicole's publicist and friend, Leslee Dart, said in a statement.
Nashville singer Urban cancelled a concert in the United States and said he was returning to Australia with Kidman.
"We are in a deep state of grief at the passing of Nic's father and are heading to Australia to be with family," Urban said in a statement on Facebook.
"We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for their love, prayers and support through this devastating loss."
Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs from the University of Technology, Sydney, also released a statement expressing their sadness at the news.
"It is with great sadness that we learn of Dr. Tony Kidman's sudden passing. During his 43 years at the University of Technology, Sydney, Tony has contributed greatly – as a colleague, as a researcher, and as a health practitioner. Tony will be missed by all at UTS. Our thoughts are with his family at this time."
47-year-old Nicole walked the red carpet with her father and husband Keith Urban at the Swisse Celebrate Life Ball in Melbourne in June this year.
Dr Kidman was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2005 for his contributions to clinical psychology.
