Rachel Griffith's near-death experience

Aussie actress Rachel Griffiths has revealed details of the incident that nearly killed her whilst giving birth in 2009.

The 45-year-old mother-of-three was forced to re-evaluate her priorities when she almost died from a ruptured uterus giving birth to daughter Clementine in 2009.

Speaking to News Corp, Rachel says the incident made her realise that life was too precious to be working 70-hour weeks and spending so much time away from husband, Andrew Taylor and their three children, Banjo, 10, Adelaide, 9, and Clementine, 4.

"You just have to live the life you want to live after that, you’ve been given a second chance", she said.

"You’re aware of your mortality and the mortality of your parents and the people you love … (and want) to make sure you have time to enjoy as much of your children’s lives as you can."

It took some time to put her new plan into action however, returning to work just six-weeks after the incident as she was filming US series Brothers and Sisters at the time.

In 2012 Rachel finally made the move back to Australia where she says she can focus more on family, and is now starring in local drama House Husbands.

At the time she revealed to The Daily Telegraph that her Brothers and Sisters costar Calista Flockhart was a big influence on her decision to move home.

“She just walked away after Ally McBeal, obviously she had a tremendous amount more money than I did to do that, not to mention (partner) Harrison Ford but she just stepped back and embraced her personal life and didn’t regret it for a second.”
