Angelina Jolie is highest earning actress in Hollywood

Of the top ten highest paid film actors in Hollywood this year, Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie was the only female star.

A report from the Women's Media Center revealed that Ange's $33 million paycheck makes her the top earning female star, but she was the only woman to crack the top ten list of highest paid stars in Hollywood.

Topping the list this year was Robert Downey Jr., who earned $75 million for the Iron Man films.

Also in the top ten were male stars Channing Tatum, Hugh Jackman, Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington.

The figures were part of a report that showed that women are underrepresented and underpaid compared to their male counterparts in the entertainment industry.

According to the study, none of last year's highest Hollywood paychecks belonged to a woman.

The study also revealed that age affects a female star's earning potential significantly more than a male star's, and that just 6% of 2012's top 100 films cast female and male roles in roughly equal numbers.

The report also showed that women have only 29% of speaking roles in films, and that nearly a third of those roles involve wearing revealing clothing on-screen. Women also represent only 16% of directors and other top film industry jobs.

Professor Stacy Smith of the Women's Media Center said: "We know that what we see on screen is in direct proportion to who’s calling the shots."
