Princess Mary had been rocked by a scandalous new book, which claims her bodyguard was fired for getting too close to her.

The book, titled Liv Vagt, which translates as The Bodyguard, which was written by former royal protection officer Frank Martinsen who was responsible for Mary's security, makes the claim that the guard was sacked for getting too friendly with the princess.

"A couple of Crown Princess Mary's bodyguards were actually fired because they started seeing themselves as her friends," he claims in the book.

While there is no suggestion of any improper behavior on Mary's part, with the story being picked up by the Danish press, she is said to be mortified that people might get the wrong idea.

"Mary always behaves properly and follows royal protocol to the letter," says a Danish royal insider.

"She would hate for anyone to think that she gave off the wrong signals," adds the insider.
