Prince Albert of Monaco has confirmed he and wife Princess Charlene are expecting their twins next month - just in time for Christmas!

The 56-year-old and his wife first revealed they were expecting in May and confirmed it was twins in October.

The royal shared his enthusiasm over the anticipated birth of his heirs, telling local newspaper Monaco-Matin: "As it is a twin pregnancy the birth will surely take place a dozen days early."

Albert, who has decided not to find out the gender of the twins, also revealed his 36-year-old wife knows but is forbidden to tell him.

"The princess probably knows but she is playing the game. She is keeping the secret as I asked her to," he said.

"You know, one doesn't often have the opportunity to have such pleasant surprises in life. That is why I prefer not to know the babies' gender before the birth."

The expectant father is already dad to two children from previous relationships, Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, 22, and Alexandre Coste, ten. However, this is former professional swimmer Princess Charlene's first time as a mum.

The couple have been married since 2011 after meeting during a swimming competition in 2000.
