Tom Cruise's 50th birthday (3rd July) celebrations have been somewhat marred after he was blind-sighted when Katie Holmes filed for divorce last week.

Despite having planned to go "hiking" and "camping" in Iceland with Katie to celebrate his 50th, Tom flew out of Iceland for the big day - boarding his private jet at 2am at Reykjavik airport and heading to California, according to US Weekly.

The megastar owns a $30 million mansion in Beverly Hills but had remained in Iceland for several days since Katie Holmes filed for divorce on June 28.

On the weekend a source told the magazine: "Tom just wants to work hard and finish everything on time".

Several weeks ago Tom told People magazine: "Iceland is beautiful. We like hiking, and so we'll have some nice hikes and maybe go camping."

Now, Katie has been settling into her newly rented New York City apartment - and has been moving in to the $12,000-a-month residence for the past two weeks, US Weekly reported.

A source told celebrity website TMZ that the prenuptial agreement Holmes signed is stacked in Tom's favour and she will not receive much money from it.

"She's not about the money. She's not that girl. She loves to work", the source told TMZ.

It has also been reported that Tom stopped Katie from signing up to a Dawson's Creek reunion movie with former boyfriend Joshua Jackson.

A source told USmagazine.com: "[Producers] were begging her to sign on for a reunion movie. Tom said absolutely no way and thought going backward would be bad.

"Katie didn't care how 'low-brow' he thinks Dawson's Creek is. She wanted to do the movie and reconnect with her fans. And have fun - something she rarely does anymore."

Katie was pictured yesterday for the first time since filing for divorce and was no longer wearing her wedding ring.

Meanwhile, Connor Cruise is backing his father Tom Cruise in his divorce battle.

The aspiring DJ - who Tom adopted with second wife Nicole Kidman - retweeted a message on twitter stating that family is the most important thing, in an apparent dig at Katie.

The tweet read "#LaFamilia Always. Friends Come And Go, But Family Is Forever (sic)."

This is the first time Connor - who recently visited his father on the set of movie Oblivion in Iceland - has made any public reference to the split.
