After years keeping his personal life fiercely private, Jim has confirmed his sexuality in an official interview and profile piece by The New York Times' Patrick Healy, who writes that Jim's appearance in the 2011 production of The Normal Heart - a revival of Larry Kramer's HIV/AIDS crisis drama - "resonated with [Jim] on a few levels".

The article continues: "Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment."

According to the magazine, they had put off a planned wedding over differing views on whether to have children.

Jim, who has neither confirmed nor denied the marriage talk, has decided to take the path of gently 'coming out of the closet' - rather than making the revelation in a major statement, notes gay writer Michael Musto from Out magazine. He says it's not the usual path these days.

"They’re a shrinking group as busting out becomes the... thing to do."
