Pocket rocket Ada Nicodemou knows she will be the mother-in-law from hell one day, if she’s lucky enough to have children.
‘I reckon I’m going to be terrible,’ laughs the feisty host of Seven’s new reality show Please Marry My Boy, which gives four mums the chance to choose a partner for their unlucky-in-love sons.
‘I know what I’m like with my brother Costa, how protective I am, so I’m afraid I’d be nothing like the lovely mothers on the show,’ says Ada, relishingher first prime-time presenting role.

‘But I must confess that I’m a born matchmaker – it’s the Greek in me!
‘I’m always on the lookout for my single friends, I can’t help it. I must confess I haven’t had any success with my introductions so far, but I’m a true believer in romance and I love seeing couples in love. Who doesn’t, right?’
It’s nearly five years since the Home and Away star walked down the aisle – proudly accompanied by her single mother Jenny – to marry chef and restaurateur Chrys Xipolitas, now 37.
It was a mutual love of food that helped to bring the couple together, following their first meeting at a Mother’s Day lunch in 2005. But it was her aunty and his sister who encouraged the fledgling romance, rather than Ada’s mum.

‘She’s never been one to interfere, which is funny because most Greek mothers are, but that’s been a bit of a blessing for Costa and me in some ways...
‘Mind you, my brother does live at home with Mum cooking and cleaning for him,’ grins Ada, 34, who lives just down the road from them in southern Sydney.‘We’re a very tight family unit. When Mum goes overseas, I take over! We all look out for each other.’
Certainly the Nicodemou and Xipolitas clans all rallied around when Ada and her husband separated for eight weeks back in 2010, partly as a result of Chrys’ battle with depression.

‘We’ve been through all that and come out the other end,’ says the gorgeous actress, fresh from a romantic summer holiday in Hawaii. ‘It’s always a journey, isn’t it, in life?
‘But I’m very, very lucky. I have the best mother-in-law in the world, she’s beautiful.
‘I could murder someone and it would be the other person’s fault, as far as Helen is concerned.
‘My mum is just the same with Chrys. If we ever argue about something, she always takes his side. He’s got it really, really good – and so have I!’Please Marry My Boy is on Mondays at 8.30pm, on Channel Seven.
