How to get a salon blow-dry at home

Yes, a ‘just left the hairdresser’ look is achievable at home. Simply follow these top tips from celeb hairstylist Anthony Nader and you’ll have hair as gorgeous as Courteney Cox’s.

1. Invest in a salon-quality dryer and attach the nozzle. It’s your saviour! It directs air onto hair, smoothing it out and moulding it into shape.

2. Don’t put conditioner on your roots as this can weigh down your locks.

3. Rinse in cold water as this enhances the natural sheen and controls the most unruly hair types. I swear by this one!

4. Don’t rub your hair with your towel after washing it. Just blot as this won’t damage and roughen up the hair cuticle.

5. To get knots out of towel-dried hair, use a wide-tooth comb and always start combing from ends to roots so the knots don’t build up on the ends.

6. Always use a heat-protector. Spray on damp hair before blow-drying or heat styling.

7. Tired arms? Blast hair 80 per cent dry and then start blow-drying with your brush.

8. Section hair when drying – this will not only keep everything neat but you will also finish in half the time.

What NOT to do

For highly coloured, treated hair like Gwen Stefani’s, don’t use the high heat button as this causes dehydration and dullness. When drying, always run your brush through to the ends. And try not to overuse serums as this will weigh down your hair and reduce the staying power you get out of your style.
