The truth: if everyone ran to their GP for every problem, the next available appointment would be in, oh, February 2012. So perform personal triage. Turn to a GP if any of the following happens without explanation: severe pain, especially in the chest; trouble with breathing, hunger or thirst; high fever. Blood in your stool or urine? Add that, too. And keep an eye on moles that morph.
