Strategy 2: strike a (yoga) pose

Yoga can reduce chronic tension-headache pain by 71 per cent, as well as decrease spasms in your temporalis muscle, a chewing muscle on the side of your head, reports the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Gentle poses are key, says Kaniecki.

Try the tree pose: stand on one leg, drawing the foot of your other leg up and placing its sole against the inner thigh of the standing leg. Stretch upwards and raise your arms above your head, towards the sky. Hold for 30-60 seconds, then repeat with opposite leg.
