At the Men's Health Man Awards event, hosted by Triple M breakfast announcer Phil O'Neil, Victorian Primary school teacher Julian Growcott was named the 2009 Australian Men's Health Man.

He beat more than 400 entries to take the prize, and was featured on our April cover. Of the first reader to appear on the magazine cover, MH editor Bruce Ritchie said: "Julian is a perfect example of the type of man who reads the magazine. He's got a hectic job, yet balances this by finding time for his girlfriend and mates. By keeping on top of his game physically he maintains a terrific, positive attitude for anything life might throw at him."

After his win, Growcott joked: "I'm sure my students will get a laugh when they see me on the posters in newsagents."
