Personal trainers don’t come more highly sought-after than Simon Waterson, who’s been getting Daniel Craig’s body ready to grapple with goons and leap across scaffolding since Casino Royale. He is clearly a man who knows how to deliver results.

“My philosophies are simple,” says Waterson. “Discipline is essential, intensity is key and function always come first.

"If you train for performance, aesthetics are a natural by-product.” So, you’ll be able to walk the walk, too.

“In each session, I combine strength and conditioning with core work and cardio, mixing up heavy and powerful movements with fast, explosive ones.

This helps you build strong muscle while still increasing your fitness and metabolic rate.” This move is one of Waterson’s staples.

The Special Agent Move

METABOLIC DEADLIFT

A: Drop dead

With a natural arch in your back, drop into a deep squat and grab the barbell. Tense your glutes to raise your body, arms extended so the bar rests on your thighs. This will develop a wide V-shape back, and boosts testosterone for the all-over muscle growth you need to mix it with hatchet-faced henchmen.

B: Power press

Lower the bar to the ground again. Without letting go, exhale sharply and kick your legs behind you so you’re positioned in the top phase of a push-up. Lower slowly until your chest touches the bar, then push up quickly to build your chest, shoulders and triceps that look great stepping out of the surf.

C: Rise again

From here, kick your legs forward towards the bar. Keep your core tight throughout. From this squat position, repeat the deadlift, so that the bar comes back to rest on your thighs. This builds muscle and burns kilojoules, for that double-O physique.
