That's largely thanks to the success of the single "Chasing Cars" (voted by UK radio listeners as "Best Song Of All Time"), which pushed sales of their 2006 album, Eyes Open, to 4.7 million worldwide. "We love that song and the freedom it has given us, but ... there's no point retracing our steps," says songwriter and frontman Gary Lightbody. Their latest offering, A Hundred Million Suns, is "something new and bolder" (and certainly happier), but contains the band's signature strong melodies and heartfelt vocals. Romantics will love "Crack The Shutters", which Lightbody describes as "the purest love song I've ever written". A Hundred Million Suns' (Polydor/Fiction/Geffen) is out now.
