Is breast best? It all depends on what country you live in. A new global study has revealed that attitudes to breastfeeding differ dramatically across the world.

The majority of mothers in every country surveyed - including China, France, Germany, Hungary, Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, the UK and the US - believed that breastfeeding was the best way to feed babies, regardless of their personal decision to breastfeed or not. An incredible 93 per cent of women in the US thought that breast was best.

The study by Lansinoh, a manufacturer of breastfeeding accessories, found that women in the UK, the US and Brazil believed that breastfeeding in public feels natural. However, women in China and France said they were embarrassed to breastfeed in public.

Most countries surveyed said that they would feel guilty if they chose not to breastfeed their child. Germany was the notable exception, with the majority of those surveyed saying they would feel no guilt if they decided not to breastfeed.

Australian women were not surveyed. What do you think about breastfeeding? Do you think breast is best?
