Since the news that auteur David Lynch would direct a reboot of his iconic Twin Peaks television show was announced in 2014, we've been sitting patiently for news of the cast list. Who would star? Would the original cast return? Would Lynch's famous muses make an appearance? And just *how* big could this show get?

Well, now we have an answer: pretty big. We're talking 217 cast members big. The entire list of stars has been released today, and it's epic.

First things first, several of the original cast members will be stepping back into their Twin Peaks shoes. We already knew that Kyle McLachland's Agent Dale would be back in this reboot set 20 years after the ending of the oriinal, but now we know that his castmates David Duchovny and Harry Dean Stanton will also return. Lynch himself is set to make a cameo in the series, and the internet already has some theories (Cooper's boss?). Even Shelly Lee, who played Laura Palmer - the Twin Peaks homecoming queen whose murder is the centre of the original show - will be back on the cast list, prompting some serious questions about where the reboot's plot will take us.

But it's the list of Twin Peaks newcomers that has us counting down the days till the show's return in 2017. Deep breath: Naomi Watts, Monica Belluci, Laura Dern, Ashley Judd, Amanda Seyfried, Sky Ferreira, Jessica Szohr, Hailey Gates, Tim Roth, Michael Cera, Jim Belushi, Balthazar Getty, Matthew Lillard, Trent Reznor, Tom Sizemore, Eddie Vedder, Gia Carides, Francesca Eastwood and Australian thespian Eamon Farren. As far as casting announcements go, it doesn't get more exciting than this.

Now, all we have to do is wait another year until the show hits our screens.
