Olivia Wilde has slammed the pressure placed on women to lose weight immediately after giving birth.

The actress, who has a seven-month old son, told ABC News she believed new mothers faced unrealistic expectations when it came to how their bodies behaved after birth.

"There are bizarre and unrealistic expectations placed on new mothers about what they should do with a body that's just a produced a human being," Wilde said. "But I try not to let that get to me. For me, it's just about feeling good. That's just what kind of has gotten me through. Do I feel good? Yes. Do I feel like I need to work on myself a little bit? Yeah. That's all a part of self-love."

Wilde isn't the only celebrity to speak out about the issue. Supermodel Lara Stone admitted her pregnancy was "difficult" and that the pressures faced by new mothers to fit back into their jeans was ridiculous.

"I was in maternity jeans at nine weeks," Stone explained. "I was bloated all over, had limp greasy hair, no energy and I could eat (and waddle) for England.

"There is so much pressure these days to look fantastic during pregnancy and to lose the weight within days of leaving [the] hospital. I have nothing against those who do, but it's not normal. Your body changes hugely during pregnancy and it takes time to go back."

Likewise, Australian supermodel Megan Gale had a refreshing take on the pressures faced by women, telling marie claire Australia earlier this month, "While you do feel self-conscious and you aren't necessarily the same physically before you had a baby, you do have to put it into perspective and just go, 'my god, I grew a human in me. My body did weird, incredible things getting him out of me and I'm feeding him still'. You can't put too much pressure on yourself - how important is it to look the way you did before? If you don't, it's not a big deal. For me, it's not about being thinner again, it's about being strong and resilient and healthy and fit so I can look after my son."
