The Best Emmy Nominated Shows You're Not Watching

Orange Is The New Black

Why you should be watching it: With season two of the breakout black comedy up for five gongs (including Best Comedy, Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for star Taylor Schilling, Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Kate Mulgrew, and Natasha Lyonne, Uzo Aduba and Laverne Cox are nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series) it's fair to say this series set in a women's prison is making its mark. Plus, welcome back Natasha Lyonne, it's been too long.

Silicon Valley

Why you should be watching it: It's created by Mike Judge, of Beavis And Butt-Head and Office Space fame, a man who knows a thing or two about great comedy. The series, which skewers what life is like for a gaggle of hoodie-clad geeks trying to make it big in the tech world, is up for Best Comedy.

Masters Of Sex

Why you should be watching it: Think of this as the new Mad Men, delectable costumes and all. A period drama that takes place during the social upheaval of the 1960s, the show tells the story of pioneering sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson (played by Michael Sheen and Lizzie Caplan). A slew of strong female characters makes this seriously sexy show (well, natch) a must-watch.

The Americans

Why you should be watching it: Set during the '80s in Washington, The Americans is as much a drama about a marriage as it is about the Cold War. Starring Keri Russell and Mathew Rhys as undercover Russian agents posing as a happy family in the suburbs, the series' Margo Martindale is up for a Best Drama Guest Actress award. If nothing else, the series is worth a viewing to soak up Russell's strangely appealing retro wardrobe (hello, high-waisted jeans).

Veep

Why you should be watching it: There's funny ha-ha and there's the sort of funny where you watch with your hands over your eyes, in appalled, delicious fascination and that's what you get with Veep. Starring Seinfeld's Julia Louis-Dreyfus as frustrated US Vice-President Selina Meyer, Veep's sharp wit and bumbling, slightly awful political creatures make for addictive television.

Portlandia

Why you should be watching it: Skewering everything from hipster culture ("Put a bird on it", anyone?) to the life-destroying addictiveness of Battlestar Galactica has never been quite so wickedly enjoyable.
