BLOG: Pop-Up Hotels

Who doesn't love a pop-up store? We've been awash with them over the last couple of years, and we've even seen the start of pop-up restaurants. So what next? The Design Hotels group has taken the pop-up to its logical conclusion, by creating a pop-up hotel in Tulum, Mexico. For six months only, you can sink your feet into the exclusive sand of the Mayan Riviera where Design Hotels has collaborated with the existing Papaya Playa beach bungalow resort to create the Papaya Playa Project.

Described as a "raw-luxe camp" by the organisers, guests can stay in a choice of cabana-style accommodation, from the luxe five-bedroom private house, through to a "crash pad" – a basic wooden structure set in the jungle, with either sand or wooden flooring and a communal bathhouse. And for this earthy experience, nightly rates start at just USD$25. Who would've thought you could get this experience so cheap?

There is also a restaurant, bar, juice bar, raw foods café, beach club and spa, shop, international DJs and lots more happenings. Get yourself seaside in Mexico from now to May 5 2012.

It sounds like one big playground to us.
