The Big Push Campaign

Picture this: A world where no child would be born with HIV, or where no death would be caused by a mosquito bite or tuberculosis.

Do you think this sounds impossible? The reality is that the world is much nearer to achieving these dreams than most of us realise.

These health goals are finally within reach, according to Dr Mark Dybul, executive director of The Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. This organisation invests global money to fight these deadly diseases, but what's needed, he says, is one last big push from world leaders to commit the necessary resources.

Hence the campaign "The Big Push", which has seen public figures from Hollywood A-listers to ex-prime ministers around the world speak out to lend their support to the cause.

"We are at a critical moment," says Dr. Dybul. "We have a historic opportunity to completely control these three diseases. What seemed impossible 10 years ago has been achieved by partners working together.

"Incidence rates for HIV are declining, tuberculosis treatment rates have shown steady improvements, and the global mortality rate for malaria went down 26 percent between 2000 and 2010," he explains. "However, these gains will be lost if we do not maintain the momentum. We need world leaders to see that there is a groundswell of continuing support, and to ensure funding is maintained."

Dr. Dybul says the "The Big Push" campaign has already received tremendous support and he is "looking forward to further driving awareness and support throughout Australia through our partnership with marie claire."
