Investigative Journalist Shot In Home

THE UN high commissioner for human rights, Navi Pillay, has condemned the “assassination attempt” of an investigative reporter in Sri Lanka as deeply disturbing.

Dual Sri Lankan/British national Faraz Shauketaly (pictured) who works for The Sunday Leader – which is known to be critical of the government – is in intensive care in a Sri Lankan hospital after being shot in the neck by gunmen in his home on Friday.

Editor-in-chief of The Sunday Leader, Lasantha Wickrematunge, was murdered on his way to work in 2009 and other journalists on the newspaper have been threatened and attacked. No arrests have ever been made.
