
A year after marie claire investigated the effects of prescription drugs in 'Lethal But Legal' (May 2008), figures show that the controversial sleeping pill Stilnox rates as the most reported drug for adverse side effects.
Between September 2007 to February 2009, Stilnox accounted for 12 per cent of calls made to the Adverse Medicine Events Line with the next drug, the cervical cancer vaccine (HPV vaccine), accounting for only 2 per cent of calls.
Reported side effects of Stilnox include abnormal sleep behaviour, like sleepwalking and binge eating whilst sleeping.
