1. And the fastest man in the world is...Usain Bolt. The charismatic Jamaican put his head down and stormed it home with a heart-stopping win in the men’s 100m final in London, ahead of countryman Yohan Blake and Justin Gatlin from the USA. The sprinter with the most appropriate name in sports today becomes the first man ever to win the event in back-to-back Olympic games, after a similar victory in Beijing in 2008. Relive the race through the magic of stick figures here!

ALSO, special congratulations to our triathlon bronze medal winner Erin Densham, who we featured in our July issue. Erin fronted our annual red dress campaign with her amazing story of how she recovered from heart surgery only three years ago to make it back to the top of her sport.

2. At least seven people were killed and three others seriously wounded when a gunman opened fire on a Sikh temple in the US state of Wisconsin. The mass shooting came to an end when police shot and killed the gunman in the temple’s car park. Both President Barack Obama and the Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney have released statements of condolence. Gun crime remains a hot-button topic as the American presidential race heats up, though neither candidate is making any moves to ban semi-automatic weapons.

3. Actress Natalie Portman tied the knot on Saturday with Benjamin Millepied, the man who choreographed her dance sequences in Black Swan and the father of their 14-month-old son, Aleph. Who says no-one's meeting at work these days?
