Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2011: Dion Lee

As one of the most highly anticipated shows of the RAFW 2011 calendar, Dion Lee had a lot to live up to this morning.

His stellar performance at last year's Rosemount Australian Fashion Week garnered raves from the fashion set, earning him a secure place in Australia's line-up of premium designers.

So when the first model appeared on the Dion Lee runway this morning, there was an audible sigh of relief from the catwalk sidelines – the wait had been worth it.

Lee's SS 11/12 collection, titled Composure, combined his signature structured, architectural aesthetic with a looser, sexier silhouette. Perfectly tailored suits were shown alongside dresses that draped softly over the body in hues of soft peach, pink, white, aqua and grey.

Lee says the collection encapsulates opposing forces – from the clinical to the chaotic.

"There's a focus on silhouette," explains Lee. "Micro short shapes transition into cutaway skirts, through to austere, sober shapes."

"I love that we’re seeing a softer side of Lee in this collection," said Jana Pokorny, marie claire's Fashion Director. "He's retained his signature aesthetic while also showing us a softer, sexier side."
