With over 100,000 pairs available at any one time, the 'Shoe Galleries' boasts everything from the world's largest Haviana wall to the latest designer collections by Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Chanel and Gucci.
"The Shoe Galleries will be a new and exciting way to experience shoe shopping within one huge space," said Selfridges’ director of accessories, Sebastian Manes, who describes the space as 'shoe heaven'.
"The new department will fit perfectly into the essence of what Selfridges is - a place where everyone can find something extraordinary to buy, from the inexpensive to the luxurious."
Measuring approximately 35,000 sq ft, the department is the largest project Selfridges has ever undertaken. It contains six salons and 11 boutiques or 'themed apartments' that have been uniquely crafted to reflect each brand - Chanel's is a reflection of Coco Chanel's apartment in Paris, while Jimmy Choo's is adorned with hand-painted gold foil wallpaper.
More than 30 pairs of one-off shoes have been designed specifically for the grand opening, which was held in London earlier today.
