Miu Miu And Miranda July Trying To End Awkward Social Interaction With New App

A pretty great app, as it happens, designed by film director, actress and author Miranda July in collaboration with fashion brand Miu Miu.

The app, which launched with an accompanying short film by July at the Venice Film Festival, is called Somebody. Users sign up and send a message to the person they want to contact. The nearest Somebody user to that person then delivers the message - complete with directions (cry, hug, cry while hugging) - in real life, in person. While you, the message sender, hide behind the barrier of a complete stranger to deliver your message.

It could all be the most elaborate prank of all time - we wouldn't be surprised if this was a chance for July to implement some kind of strange and wonderful performance artwork of strangers breaking up with other strangers all around the world - but it also could just be the app that ends our fear of awkward social interactions. It's also slick and cool, with a fun interface with all of Miu Miu's insouciant street-cred.

The app already has some pretty high-profile celebrity fans - Lena Dunham and Lorde have both tweeted about it. Does that mean you could potentially get your next break-up hand-delivered by Lorde? Or an invitation to go and watch Guardians of the Galaxy read out by Lena Dunham? Where do we sign up?
