The iconic Australian label was invited by the UN to make a long-term commitment to empower women across slums in sub-Saharan Africa, as part of the ‘Ethical Fashion Initiative’ alongside Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, Fendi and more.
Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton, the creative duo behind the label, have lent their time and sartorial expertise to help create a unique set of accessories in conjunction with the women of these East African tribes.
November saw the first release of the fruits of their labour – a limited edition shopper and clutch bag featuring sass & bide’s trademark tribal prints.
“It is inspiring to be working directly with the East African Artisans, & to be influenced by their tradition, culture & daily lives,” Clarke said.
“By partnering with these talented craftswomen, it allows them to support their immediate families and greater communities. It is rewarding to see that their wages are used to educate their children. This one step forward towards the fight against poverty.”
It’s fashion with a conscience, so there’ll be no guilty feelings when you loosen the purse strings for these beauties, available in all sass & bide stores nationwide.
shopper: RRP AUD $290; clutch RRP AUD $190.
