It’s easily the most talked-about accessory of Paris Fashion Week – and now Karl Lagerfeld has explained why he decided to make the infamous “hula hoop” Chanel handbag.

“It’s for the beach,” the creative director explained. “"You need space for the beach towel. And then you can put it into the sand and hang things on it."
