Based on a superhero theme with an overall Marvel Comics influence, the 2012 collection was the perfect example of Romance Was Born’s ever-evolving aesthetic.

While the brand’s signature neon colours, bold prints and eclectic styling remained firmly intact, the silhouette of this year’s superhero girl was much more streamlined: tight neon leggings were matched with peplum tops, while puffball skirts were reined in via structured tops adorned with intricate beading.

“There’s lots of graphic prints,” Sales told marie claire prior to the show. “The most prints we’ve ever done!”

Marie claire's Fashion Editor, Kate Harrowsmith, referred to the collection as “extremely strong”, saying, “I think Luke and Anna honed their creativity in a commercial sense without sacrificing their creativity. They’ve channelled all their energy into a strong collection that really works and is also wearable.”
