Although the trend arose a few years ago, with then 13-year old blogger Tavi Gevinson dying her hair a pale silver, celebrities such as Kelly Osbourne have been spotted sporting the muted hue again.
And over the weekend, models at Maria Barros' Madrid Fashion Week show stepped out with sweeping grey locks that contrasted starkly with their youthful complexions.
"Through this collection I tell a story, my story, my world," said Barros, who reportedly chose the the dramatic hue to highlight her jewel-toned collection.
"This is a dead glam look for younger girls but needs youthful skin, great style and bright, vibrant make-up to lift the colour and avoid looking grotty," says celebrity hairstylist Andrew Barton.
Barton added that the risky look is best reserved for those under 30, saying, "I would strongly advise anyone in their late 30s or beyond to steer well clear. If you look your age and dye your hair grey, guess what will happen – you'll look old!"
A 2011 survey John Frieda revealed that by 32% of women will find a grey hair by the age of 30, compared with 20% 20 years ago – with stress apparently to blame for the increase.
Would you ever dye your hair grey before it went that way naturally?
