Balmain, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier and Yves Saint Laurent. These are just some of the designers on show at a new fashion exhibition that has just launched in Adelaide.
marie claire got a sneak peek at Fashion Icons, which features more than 90 pieces that have travelled halfway around the world - from the famous Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris.
The show charts the rise of French fashion from 1947 – when Dior’s ‘New Look’ emerged – through till today. Wander through the exhibition and you’ll encounter beautiful beading and couture from the 40s, colourful tunics and space-age shift dresses from the 60s. Plus there’s a vintage Chanel suit, a flowing Lanvin gown, Dolce & Gabbana’s infamous chrome bustier, a pleated, pale pink Valentino confection – and much more.
“Fashion is a universal language spoken around the world,” said curator Pamela Golbin at the exhibition’s launch.
The exhibition runs from October 25-February 15 at the Art Gallery of South Australia. It is supported by a programme of more than 100 events, including fashion films, talks and more.
