"Violet and orchid are very popular tones for the coming season," says Marc Bertaud, Laura Mercier Global Make-up Artist. Try fun, bright washes of colour for day, and dark, moodly plum tones for evening drama. Keep things modern by limiting your palette to only one purple tone at a time: wear it with neutral hues of pink or peach, or, for a daring take, Bertaud suggests pairing amethyst eyeshadow with a matt tomato-red lipstick. If you have deep-set eyes, soft, sheer colours won't be as noticeable on you. Make your eyes "pop" with iridescnet eyeliner, or experiment with more intensely pigmented eyeshadow.

Expert tip: For long-wearing, crease-free colour, prep your eyelids with a primer, such as Elizabeth Arden Advanced Eye-Fix Primer, $42. This will also help to reveal the true intensity of your chosen shade.
