"Well-groomed nails complete any outfit," says manicurist Kara Jeffers of French Pink nail boutique, Melbourne. "This time of year is all about strappy heels and fresh colours, which means no more hiding in knee high boots and stockings. There is nothing worse than seeing a gorgeous pair of sling-backs with dry feet and unpolished toes!"

Here, Jeffers shares her top tips for polished perfection on race day:

  • If you're attending more than one race day, choose a nail colour that compliments all of your Spring Carnival outfits.
If you snag or break a nail, gently buff away any part of the nail that might snag your frock.
Invest in a manicure-enhancing product such as Essie's ShineE. Apply one coat three days after your manicure for an enhanced flawless finish.
Apply hand cream and cuticle oil regularly and remember to use suncreeen on your hands.
