TREND: Seriously straight strands with the top section pinned smooth to the crown.
SUITS: "Most people can wear it," says Redken stylist Rodney Cutler. "But if you have a fuller face, don't wear it flat - add some volume by lifting at the roots to balance out the head shape."
HOW-TO: Using a straightening cream or serum, blow-dry your hair straight, and follow with a flat iron from root to tip. With a fine-toothed comb, section the top of your hair and smooth down. Secure with bobby pins at the crown and fix with a spritz of hairspray.
TREND: Inspired by the glamorous finger waves of the '40s, the new curl is polished and glossy with natural movement.
SUITS: Perfect for medium to long locks, but may be difficult to achieve with natural corkscrew curls.
HOW-TO: Adam Reed from Charles Worthington Salons suggests you "spray in a setting lotion, create a side part and blow-dry with a large round brush to smooth and maintain volume. Then twist your hair - section by section - around a medium curling iron and let it fall loose. Complete the whole head, then brush out with a flat brush. Lightly mist with hairspray and a shine spray for added glamour."
TREND: A low-slung perfect ponytail - either slicked back or parted to the side.
SUITS: "Great for women with longer hair and strong faces," reveals Reed. "But if you have curly hair and/or a round face, it should be avoided."
HOW-TO: Apply a smoothing serum and use a round brush to blow-dry the hair straight. Run a hot iron through the lengths. Using a fine-toothed comb, pull your hair back and secure at the nape of the neck with an elastic. Section a piece of the ponytail and wrap around the band. Pin in place and spritz with hairspray to hold. Finish with a shine gloss and hairspray all over.
TREND: Dead straight strands, parted neatly down the centre.
SUITS: "Most people can wear straight hair," explains Cutler. "It's more about adjusting the appropriate length for your face and body type/height and adding volume if needed."
HOW-TO: Prepare freshly washed, damp hair with a straightening serum or balm. For the best results, Cutler recommends using a "hairdryer that has a nozzle and to blow-dry from the hair's roots to the ends so the cuticle lies flat". To finish the look, run a straightener over the lengths followed by a mist of gloss for added shine.
TRENDS: Ditch the matronly image. The new bob is heavily layered throughout, cupping the jawline and angled shorter towards the back.
SUITS: "A look for all women, but if you're too round in the face, you will need layers at the front to soften the style," comments Cutler.
HOW-TO: Apply a straightening balm throughout the length of the hair, then blow-dry your strands straight with the nozzle angled downwards for a smooth finish. To give the bob a modern look, style with a little bit of wax or paste to give it more texture.
TREND: Loose, sexy and undone. It's all about your hair having lots of volume on top and being loosely pinned back below the crown.
SUITS: "With pinning, you control how it looks so almost anyone with long locks can wear it," adds Reed.
HOW-TO: Using a round brush, blow-dry your hair with a volume mousse. For extra oomph, pop in some velcro rollers sprayed with a setting lotion, heat with the hairdryer and remove once cooled. Pin the top layers of the hair at the curvature of the back of your head and secure with hairspray.
TREND: A blunt fringe - cut down as low as the eyebrows - signals instant chic.
SUITS: A fringe can work for everyone, but be warned, this is not a look for low-maintenance types as you'll need a trim every four weeks.
HOW-TO: Apply a straightening serum to towel-dried hair. Start blow-drying your hair at the fringe, with the nozzle pointing downwards to help smooth the hair cuticle. "Use a flat, not round, brush to avoid the unwanted barrel shape," explains Cutler.
