Elemental Herbology

The story: Brisbane-born Kirsty Goodger had established a successful career in London as the spa director of the prestigious Space.NK store. After 10 years of listening to the concerns of her spa clients, she created this natural range, packed with marine, mineral and plant-based ingredients. The skincare line was quickly snapped up by Space.NK stores across the US and UK, as well as leading international spas.

Top pick: Cell Food: Protection and Repair Facial Serum, $94.95.

Körner Skincare

The story: Rebecca Körner, granddaughter of Johanna - founder of the iconic Madame Korner cosmetics - has revived the third-generation Australian family business. From her adopted Paris, she's updated the skincare line with chic packaging and high-tech formulas, but has stayed true to its salon heritage. "I've created it for the multi-tasking woman of today, who desires to achieve spa-quality results at home," she says.

Top pick: Act Easy: Exfoliator, $85.

Lipstick Queen

The story: "I've been obsessed with lipstick for 18 years," says self-confessed lipstick queen, Poppy King. Life hasn't always run smoothly for King, though, who relocated to New York after her company collapsed amid huge publicity in the '90s. Despite the hard times, King's passion for cosmetics hasn't faded. Now, she's back with a fabulous line of comfortable and hydrating sheer or saturated lip products in a flattering spectrum of shades.

Top pick: Red Sinner, $32.
