Redheads May Become Extinct Due To Global Warming
While some women spend hundreds of dollars trying to emulate the perfect shade of red hair, others such as Jessica Chastain are lucky enough to grow it all on their own.
But scientists from the UK's Daily Record now predict red heads will eventually be phased out of the population due to global warming.
According to the journal, the increasing sunlight in Scotland is to blame (of course!). The theory is that the country has such a high population of redheads because the gene that causes this gorgeous hue is thought to be a response to the lack of sun in the country.
"We think red hair in Scotland, Ireland and the north of England is adaptation to the climate," explained Dr. Alistair Moffat of genetic testing company ScotlandsDNA. "We do not get enough sun and have to get all the vitamin D we can. If it was to get less cloudy and there was more sun, there would be fewer people carrying the gene."
We can hardly imagine a world without red heads, so here are a few of our favourites (side note: not all of them are natural).
