Upgrade your cleanser

A hardworking face wash is essential to rid your complexion of make-up and grime, as well as sunscreen and the extra oil your skin produces in hotter weather. Consider an exfoliating cleanser that uses gentle acids or enzymes for a super-clean feel without harsh abrasion. Try Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial Wash, $69.30, or Dermalogica AGE Smart Skin Resurfacing Cleanser, $65.50.

Select a serum

Your regular cream may feel too rich on hot days, but it's still important to keep your face hydrated, especially if you're spending a lot of time in air conditioning. Your best bet is a gel-textured serum, used under a light moisturiser, to deliver intense hydration, minus the oil factor. Try Lancôme Hydra Zen Neurocalm Soothing Anti-Stress Ultra-Moisturising Gel Essence, $110, or Dior HydrAction Deep Hydration Radical Serum, $115.

Multi-task your moisturiser

Warm weather means that, more than ever, sunscreen is a must. Make it easy and choose a light moisturiser with an SPF, so it doesn't add an extra step or layer of product. The normal rules of reapplication still apply, so top up if you're in the sun for long periods. Try Chanel Précision Beauté Initiale Healthy Glow SPF 15, $120, or Olay Complete Defence SPF 30+ Lotion, $13.99.

Deep-treat grease

Intensify your daily routine by using a mask once a week. Look for one that will soak up oil and cleanse your pores, leaving your skin smooth, soft and shine-free. Try La Prairie Cellular Deep Cleansing Mask, $220, or Biotherm Biopur One-Minute Unclogging Mask, $55.
