Drive. It's a bit like what's more important, intelligence or execution - you need both, but drive and perseverance will generally get you further than raw talent that you don't know how to use.

On a scale of one to ten, how significant a role does luck play when it comes to success?
Four. Luck certainly plays a part but you can often make your own luck.

Which is more critical, the idea or the execution?
Execution. Ideas never executed don't help much but the absence of ideas is a bit of a problem too.

Is it better to be passionate or objective?
Objective. Although sometimes the perception of objectivity wins the day - passion is often not far below the surface.

From most to least, what qualities are the most important?

  1. Drive
    Talent
    Relationship skills
    Organisational skills
    Confidence

What one trait has helped you most in business?
Hard work - I put drive at number one because it is what keeps you going when times are tough.

What is the one trait that has hindered you most in business?
Lack of confidence - took me a long time to realise I have as much talent as most people.

What is the hardest lesson you've learned and how did you learn it?
Not everyone shares your ethics or your moral code - this means being pleasant and polite can be perceived by others as a weakness.

What is the one piece of advice you would offer other women in business?
Be true to yourself and do what you love doing.

What are the biggest mistakes you see women making in business?
Trying to act like men.
