Experts say that hunching over game consoles and smartphones for hours is the main reason why children can develop a curvature of the spine and sometimes slipped discs.

The phenomenon is affecting mostly eight to eighteen year olds.

But a total ban on gaming devices isn't recommended. Instead, experts suggest that children need to pay attention to their posture, especially good sitting habits.

Surgeons and joint authors of an article in the Dutch medical magazine Medisch Contact Piet van Loon and Andre Soeterbroek alerted GPs about the ‘Gameboy back’ trend.

They told the Irish Times that the last time weak back problems were observed in children were 100 years ago, when child labour was still common in Europe.
