Have you ever wished you could just shut out the world and have a few minutes of comfortable peace and quiet no matter where you are?

As a way to provide a little stress management and tell the world around you to quiet down for a bit, you can simply pull out the HUSH chair.

With HUSH, the portable ‘womb chair’ created by artist Freyja Sewell you can pop up the pod, climb in and curl up in the foetal position escaping any situation you find yourself in.

Sewell describes the chair on her website and it seems to have many functions.

It’s a way to deal with overcrowding, “For example, sharing your room with your partner, brother or friend. It is essential to continue to develop new ways of allowing people to comfortably co-exist in these increasingly densely populated environments.”

It’s an alternative to finding your own home, “Soaring property prices and lack of available space are causing more and more people to seek alternatives to owning their own home in the city.”

It can help you de-stress. Too much stress affects us physically, mentally and emotionally. Living in a constantly interconnected world filled with social media updates it is hard to shut off. The ‘womb chair’ is a way to crawl into a space free from all that stress and distraction.

It can be used as a pod to curl up in or squished into a cosy chair.

It can make you feel warm and taken care of, “The ‘womb’ shape inspires very different feelings in different people; to me it is a warm, cosy space, for contemplation and rest.”

If you have other feelings about the idea of crawling back into your mother’s uterus then it may not be the best purchase for you.

The ‘womb chair’ is made from 100 per cent wool felt with cushions stuffed with recycled wool fibres and was recently nominated a ‘Green Hero’ for Grand Designs Live.

The HUSH chair is not yet for sale.
