These days a proposal just isn’t a proposal without the writing the words ‘marry me’ in flames on a beach in the Maldives.
That’s how billionaire property tycoon Nick Candy recently proposed to his girlfriend, ex-Neighbours star Holly Valance. The Australian singer and actor tweeted a photo of the flaming proposal, along with her excited response – which was a yes.
Extreme proposals are becoming increasingly de rigueur. A bunch of roses on bended knee just doesn’t cut it anymore.
This morning the Queen Mary II, the largest ship to visit Australia, sailed into Sydney Harbour bearing a banner reading ‘Marry me Jess’.
Jess’s hopeful suitor couldn’t have picked a more impressive vessel to post his proposal. The Queen Mary II is two-thirds the length of the Harbour Bridge and weighs a whopping 151400 tonnes.
The proposal turned out to be one part romance, one part PR campaign. Jess said yes, and the couple, parents of 3-month old Sebastian, will enjoy a two week honeymoon cruise aboard the famous ship on the house.
Meanwhile a man in New Zealand has splashed his marriage proposal to his girlfriend across a billboard in Auckland.
David Sims, 23, is one of 12 romantic Kiwis who will have their public proposals printed on billboards after winning Westfield’s "Truly, Madly, Hugely in Love" competition.
Sims’ message to his girlfriend of four-and-a-half years Leena Riekkola read, “You’ve travelled across the world for me. Will you take a few more steps and be my wife?”
Let’s hope she says yes.
On the other side of the world a video of tailor Adam King proposing to his girlfriend Lucy on a London train last year went viral. King carefully choreographed the proposal which unfolded on the 19.57 train to Watford on November 1.
King, along with members of a choir masquerading as passengers on the train, burst into a rendition of Bill Wither’s Lovely Day. Half way through the song King proposed to a stunned Lucy in a scene that has been watched online by over 1.3 million people around the world.

Far be it from me to whinge like a big girl mr yahoo......but why cant cant we comment on the current crop of stories? We do this quite often and I believe you owe us an explanation.
ReplyAlso why is it always the man that has to propose, why is it never the woman that proposes, after all aren't we suppose to be living in a society where men and women are equal so therefore if men and women are equal men and women have to share equal responsibility of all things.
ReplyMarriage is boring and goes against our nature. Most end up in divorce courts anyway within the first five years nowadays. 'Till death do you part' is a bit of a joke and so is the white virginal dress. But good luck to them all. They'll need it.
