I'm Dr. Marjorie Greenfield, an obstetrician and a mom. Through this blog I will share a view of pregnancy and birth born from many experiences: Over 20 years' delivering babies; ongoing education as a physician; countless conversations with parents, doulas, nurses, midwives, and doctors; and my own journey through motherhood. I like to think of myself as part midwife, meaning that I see birth as a natural process and an important life experience. My hope is not only that you will get lots of great information from this blog, but also that you will feel affirmed, empowered, and reassured.
In addition to practicing obstetrics and gynecology, I teach residents and medical students at University Hospitals of Cleveland and Case School of Medicine, where I am an associate professor. In 2000, I began to write for a wonderful web site, drSpock.com. The creative outlet of writing and the extension of my reach beyond the office were exhilarating. That led to my book "Dr. Spock's Pregnancy Guide," which has been described as walking you through pregnancy like a big sister would, if your sister happened to be an obstetrician and a mom. Now I am working on "The Working Woman's Pregnancy Book," written specifically for women in the workforce, to be published by Yale University Press in 2007. I live in Cleveland, Ohio, with my husband, who is also a doctor, and our teenage son.
