7 Ways to Be Healthy, Wealthy & Wise

Ok, so you’re human, and will inevitably experience ups and downs for the entirety of your life when it comes to your health, wealth and happiness. Nonetheless, there is much you can do to get a nice balance of these three elements. Below are seven ideas to help you do so.

7 Ways to Be Healthy, Wealthy & Wise

1.    Live consciously.

Only when we are conscious of our actions, thoughts, feelings and choices can we clearly discern what supports us and what doesn’t. Denial, avoidance, and living through habit keep us stuck where we are, making poor choices and living the same life we have up until now. Ignore your health and disease will eventually find you. Refuse to pay attention to your cash inflow versus outflow, and you’ll never get ahead. Close your ears to your internal wisdom and your life will reflect others needs and ideals rather than your own. As an alternative, learn to become a more conscious being. That is, gain greater awareness of everything you think, feel and choose to do (or not do) throughout your day.

2.    Align your decision making to your values.

Health, wealth and wisdom require clarifying what matters to you at a deep level and making small daily choices in alignment with that. Without clarity of your values, you’ll be more inclined to make decisions that feed your impulses (buy that new dress rather than start your savings plan), please other people (say yes to that extra project at work when your relationship is already hanging by a thread), or help you avoid things you don’t like but that need to be faced to be free (find that new job).

Clarify your top values; do an online search for some ideas on how to do this. Once you know your top three or four values make sure you check in regularly with those values throughout each day as you decide how to spend your time and energy (keep a post it note on your computer or diary). Where possible, say no to things that do not fit with your values.

3.    Exercise every day.

Need I expand? Exercise is important for health, wealth and wisdom because it keeps your weight under control, emotions in check, stress levels low and mind clear. What other single thing in life has such an overarching impact on your life? So get off the couch every day and be active in some way.

4.    Be abundant and frugal.

Abundance is a state of mind where you know there is enough; you will always be supported, and don’t need to hold on to things because there is plenty for all. Yet abundance also fits with frugality. When you feel there is already enough, you no longer need that extra pair of shoes, that holiday in the five star resort, or that high paying yet life draining job to overcome a feeling of lack. Frugal simply means being careful with your money—ensuring you always spend less than you earn and making conscious choices with how you spend your pay packet. Frugal does not have to equal stingy; you can still be generous when it really matters, and frugal when it doesn’t.

5.    Plan, budget and schedule.

We all know we should do more planning but few of us do. Hence, we overcommit, overspend, miss important events, and spend our time on the urgent rather than the important. Create a weekly habit to ensure you plan your time, your money, and your health. Choose the same time and day each week to do your planning, so that it becomes a new habit, not a “do-once-and-never-look-at-again” strategy.

6.    Let things be.

On the one hand planning is essential, yet on the other hand flexibility to go with the flow is also crucial. Despite brilliant plans, there is much in life that happens that we cannot control—we pick up the flu, meetings get cancelled, or our boss throws an urgent task on our table (yet again). Health, wealth and happiness require an acceptance of what actually happens in each moment, irrespective of your plan or schedule; the ability to adapt to life as it unfolds. Adopt the mantra “I now go with the flow”: each time a little hassle crosses your path, instead of giving in to frustration, take a deep breath in and out, and silently recite your new mantra.

7.    Value relationships.

Relationships feed our lives. The more we value the people in our lives, the more we can become in every area of life. A strong support system provides a buffer from stress, good relationships open doors in our career, and effective communication results in gaining life wisdom. Our happiest moments in life are usually those shared with the ones we love. Nurture your relationships with others from a place of genuine appreciation. Learn to listen more, judge less and give people your presence. Act with honesty and integrity. Provide support and encouragement. Commit to being your best self while also challenging others to be their best!
