St Valentine

Argh, Valentine’s Day. Anyone else having that reaction to the impending date next Tuesday?
What are all you singletons out there doing on the 14 th of Feb?
If left unsupervised or with no set plans in place, I’ll probably be checking my online profile religiously every 3 seconds to see if someone I’ve never met sends me a message ( hmm that seems normal) or looking at my desk phone hoping the courier rings me to tell me my red roses have arrived. Argh (there it is again) I can already feel the depression setting in.
It’s amazing what an over commercialised day like this can do to you huh. I mean I’m all for declarations of love and I think it’s even sweet that everyone declares it on the same day – but seriously, when you don’t have a Valentine, declarations; big, small, on the same day, not on the same day totally suck! It’d be alright if everyone else who had a valentine wasn’t throwing red roses, or heart shaped chocolates in your face every minute but they do, and the salt grinds deeper into the wounds.
Even if you are happily single , it still does kinda suck that there is no grand gesture of romantic love for you on that day.
So I’ve decided NOT to whinge and moan about the lacklustre of shiney love Ill get on that dreaded day ( even though it sounds like I just did). I’ve organised a Valentines dinner for me and all my single mates. We’re going to drink wine and be merry and see if we can’t tempt cupid into throwing a few arrows here and there. See where the night takes us. It must be noted that my friend just recently got married to the guy she met at Valentine’s Day dinner for singles.
And let’s be clear. It’s not an anti-valentine’s day dinner. What’s the point of pretending you’re anti someone telling you they love you by way of some silly teddy, love note or red rose. We all want that. Deep down. We all want a stupid teddy that says ‘ I love you’ on the tummy. Tell me it isn’t true!
So good mates it is. In a great place. Eating and drinking and being with each other. Sounds nice huh.
Done anything similar? Have you met the love of your life on Val day? Or are you really and truly against this day of Love?
