Hi Westy - I know its exciting isnt it!! My MBI is 42 at the moment and I'm 118kgs so looking forward to being a lot healthier this time next year.  Hey Michelle - I tried the Optislim first and that isn't as nice as the Optifast I gotta say. I dont mind it at all to be honest.  Just have to get used to not eating anything I want when a I want...
Had a great Christmas it was my last horahhh with food I guess.... Had trifle for breakfast on boxing day (god thats so bad but boy oh boy I loved it hahhahaha).  All systems go here I have my appointment at the hospital on the 7th to have a chat with the Anesthetist etc..... not long to go now.....keep in touch and have a Happy New year too!

Hey Gidget

OMG we are almost there.

Had a reasonable Xmas did not over eat like I usually do, but had triffle and Pavlova Yum Oh.

BMI 43 Weight 96 KGS.   I am a shorty 155 height.  Already lost about 8 KGS, been dieting for awhile, not one of my pleasures.

Start Opti 1st January.  Confirmed all Hospital details today, should only be in overnight.

Feeling nervous and exciting to be honest I cannot wait for this Surgery.  I have been planning this for about 2 years, but finally due to health reasons (high blood pressure etc) my GP said it was time.  Hope it all goes well.

Take Care

OMG alright Westy!!!!.  I'm a tad taller at 169cm (lost a centremetre somewhere in the last few years haha) I have been on Optifast for 7 days today.  I'm going o.k - get the tummy rumbles a bit but ride it through.  Drinking heaps and I must say feel better for it.  Getting into the soda water and diet lime cordial at the moment.  Can you believe its one week tomorrow until surgery.....cant believe its here!!  Michelle....geez you have been on Optifast for a long time ya poor thing.  Two weeks all I have to do - I hope you get in soon.  Whats Tassie's waiting list like - its not available on the public system in Victoria.  I have no idea why they don't make it more easily available for people!!! ....Dont get me started (-_-) grrrrrr

I have been on the list for about 18 months, it was longer before they started doing the bands in Launceston as before you had to go to Hobart.  My surgeon wanted me on optifast for 6 weeks prior to the op. He said mid Jan but you know what the public system is like so i hope I dont get put back I'm not sure I can stand all this optifast and veges for much longer. at least after I can eat other interesting things even if they are pulverised so i can eat them LOL.

Hey Gidget

Yes you have read right.  Previously banded 27th October 2010.  A couple of days after Surgery my port incision was really red, and within a couple of days I was put back into Hospital with a severe Port infection.  5 days later still in Hospital still had a terrible infection, Surgeon advised me that my Port had to come out.   So Dr does not know if I rejected the port or picked up an infection somewhere.  So here I am with a Band that does not work and no Port to get any fill.  Just like not being banded at all.

To me this next operation is the start of my banded life, I hope that this time goes well for me (really nervous about getting another infection).

My personal opinion is the Port incision is the most painful area after Surgery and does take a bit of time to get over.  So do not overdue it, take it easy for the first 5 days.  My first port was on my left hand side, just to the left and above belly button, so my next one will be on the right side.

At this stage I dont know what my diet will be post operation as will see my Dietician after Surgery.

Good luck with your Banding.

Hi January 2011

Im at Januuay 2010 Bander so almost up to my 1st anniversary (27/1), I started at 143kgs at 180cm tall, Im down to 100kgs and feel a million bucks, my goal is 90kgs... It is a long road and you will come to some bumps on along the way maybe even some car crashes! but keep at it, dont beat yourselves up over things tomorrow is always a new day...My only advise is keep the exercise up, I exercise 6 days a week, and very small portions and eat slowly..I have been one of the really lucky ones, I have had no extra fill since surgery, and I lost a main portion of my weight early on.

Stay positive and remember this is a lifestyle change you will have for the rest of your life, not a quick fix!

Cheers and goodluck

Sorry to hear you had so much trouble & that sucks Westy that you had an infection... l'm sure this time will be fine.  Sending positive vibes to you :-)
Michelle - I really hope they do the right thing and put you in for surgery when they said they will.... nothing worse than waiting waiting waiting.....18 Months is still too long to wait.
Congrats to DJ on the anniversary and doing so well.  Wow 43k's is an amazing effort, you're right though this part is only part of the journey.  It's the mental part and the physical part that is the hard work I think.... not thinking about whats to eat is going to be a challenge.  But I preparing myself, keeping a diary of how I feel etc and see if I can work on things mentally..... Obesity is not just about over-eating its soooo much more.  Its nice to have supportive people here.... 7 days to go people :-)

Hi Michelle

So sorry about the Hospital not having your admission papers.  Thats the Surgeons fault.  I guess hes on holidays.  I would be absolutely paranoid about the whole thing.  I know how you feel, just want to get it all done!!!!!!!

Hope it all works out for you
Good luck

Hi my name is Julie and i am getting banded on the 13th of Jan, I am feeling very nervous and a bit excited at the prospect of having no more or very little pain in my back and joints after i loose some weight.
At the moment i am on optislim i prefer the taste to optifast, 2 weeks of the shakes then the op.
I also am on warfarin so i have to stop it day before the op hope it goes OK i don't want another blood clot.

Michelle i hope you get sorted out soon and get an apology from the Doc for messing you around. . so frustrating for you.

Westy i wish you all the best with your next procedure . . repair per say and im sure you will do OK this time.

Gidget to you also all the best.
It is a big thing and the support and friendship here is a great comfort, knowing that other people understand what you are going thru and where you are at and being able to share feelings etc is wonderful.

Everyone being banded in January all the best and perhaps I can see your comments on here afterwards to see how you all are doing.  Bye for now

Julie.

I can't believe how many people have only had to have the optifast for 2 weeks. I wonder why my doc wants me on them for 6 weeks. i am so over it. Its so frustrating. Julie I completely understand the need to remove weight from your back and knee's  Mine feel like they are being crushed slowly. when i exercise my knee grates and it's quite painful. All the best with your op hope it all goes well..

Michelle that just sucks that you have been stuffed around like that - whats the point on being on Opti-@%&# only to be told the Doctor hasn't done his part!!! WHAT THE!! Not good enough is it?? Julie - Goodluck on the 13th - not much longer after Westy and I have ours and it seems to be coming up fast (well to me anyway).

I know what you guys are saying about the pain factor.  I have the grinding knee thing and also a bulging disk (L5) in my back and all I can say is OMG about that pain at times....  I am looking forward to getting the weight off and being able to walk like a normal person instead of an old woman (and I'm not THAT old yet hahahaha)  :-D

One more sleep Westy!!!  Can't believe its here already... how you feeling? I'm not nervous yet but I know I will be when I walk into the hospital at 11.30am tomorrow - getting banded at 2.30pm There is about 5 people ahead of me apparently....
Got rid of 5 Kg's with Optifast so that's a bonus,  but will be glad to eat 'real' food again.

So sorry to hear about you being unwell Michelle - hope you on the mend soon.  Good luck and hope to hear you are booked and ready to go in the next couple of weeks.

Any way look forward to seeing how everybody is going next week

Wellllll I'm back!!!! - was banded at 5 o'@%&# on Monday afternoon the 10th and I can say I feel like I have done about 25000 sit ups.  Great pain killers in hospital but all you have when you are out of hospital is panadol.  Will be venturing out tomorrow for bit (driving) - I think I will be fine.  But sore when I bend down and laugh but other than that its all good. Chest is a bit sore but I guess its from bruising -  was a bit phlemy on day 2 but thats gone now.  Bring it on is all I can say...... Hope everyone else is good xx Gidget.
