Hi people,
Have had a band for 4 years and lost 30kgs but does anyone else suffer not being able too eat for hours before bed? If I do I spend all night coughing and or feeling like I'm choking.
Thanks..Linda

Linda,

That is very common. I can't eat or drink for at least 3 hours before bed.

BTW Congrats on your weight loss.

Hi Jill, Hope you are still going well.  Are you still going strong with the weightloss?
I am still about 14 - 15 kg down from early last year, I have been the same for quite a few months.  I still need to loose about 10kg and just hope that soon I will find this elusive 'sweet spot' to help me do this.  I go back to Dr tomorrow and hope to get another fill, at the moment I have 8 1/2 ml in my 10ml band .  I now occasionally feel restriction but really not that often.  For the last three weeks I have been walking for 30 - 45 minutes around our hilly area.  I am now getting fitter but not thinner. Oh well, I'm trying.

Hi I'm an Australian living in Dubai. I am having my band done on the 23rd. I would love to meet some other Aussies and share your experiences, so I know what to expect. I haven't been here long and don't really have any friends who I want to share this with. I look forward to learning from you all.

Can anyone shed any light on whether lapband surgery is covered by medicare in NSW and the kind of wait that might be involved. I have a calculated BMI of over 50 and really need some help ...

Kazza, a lot of the old group have gone over to a new site called Aussie Lapband Talk. Just google it. I would put the address but some people get cross about that.
Come on over, its very active and friendly and a lot of the old gang are over there.

Hope that your blockage cleared.  I cannot believe that the idiots at Yahoo ruined what was a wonderful and helpful forum for bandits.

Shame on you Yahoo!

Hi there peoples!!! I need some input!! I have always thought about banding as I have been on the chubby side most of my life but only now finally decided to go see someone about it. I am 29 and have a bmi of 37 I am booked in to see Dr Dolan next month. Have managed to lose weight 3 times myself but always put the weight back on plus more........ My weight affects me everyday and as a mother of 2 kids I am now seeing how it is affecting my daughter who is nearly 9. I dont like going out or been seen as I dont feel like I look like a should at 29. Most if my weight is carried around my tummy and have been mistaken for been pregnant on numerous occasions. I was wondering if anyone has had a bmi of 37 and had handing done??? Or am I wasting my time even going to see Dr Dolan. I hope there is someone out there that can give a little input as I am going threw this on my own........ Thanks :-/

Hi Lunatic!

I was banded by Dolan in November 2010 and he was fantastic. I would defintely recommend going to him!
If you have any more questions come over to the other forum
Aussie Lapband Talk (.com) and have a chat... it is a little easier to use that one!

If you have any questions dont hesitate to ask me! :)

Hi Everyone
Just went for my first visit back to surgeons in 2 years.  For many reasons lost the plot and have put back on 20kg, mainly due to suffering a too tight band and eating rubbish (eg custards, chocolate etc). Lucky my blood levels were OK.
Had half a ml out today, didn't get yelled at and am now looking forward to getting that 20kg off again......and it was nice to eat a 'normal' albeit very small, meal again!

Just a quick question not sure where to post it. For excessive skin/arm/body lifts etc I know that it is sometimes classed as reconstructive surgery rather than cosmetic and that it was for me. Are there places people can go where that is covered by medicare or healthcare cards? I spent a year on the waiting list for The Alfred (Melbourne) only to be told by letter they don’t do that there and find someone else, why they couldn’t tell me when I came in instead of me waiting a year I don’t know but I’m really upset so I’m hoping there are other avenues.

Does anyone know whether the lap band is considered a pre-existing medical condition when applying for travel insurance? I am looking at travel insurance for a trip in 2 weeks to Bali and I am not sure. It does not come up on their list??

Hi Everyone, a couple of years ago there was a thread on here Julies Arm Pics, which is now gone, i wanted to find out who Julies surgeon in Adelaide was, i can only remember that she was a general surgeon, not plastic surgeon, that had a particular interest in reconstructive surgery after weight loss.  She did a great job on Julie and would be very interested if anyone knows Julie or can remember the surgeons name.

Thanks
Sarah
