HI everyone from the new message board. I have to say that I don't really like this set up. Page seems to be full of ads.

Anyway I hope all is going well for everyone at the moment battling through the optifast like me. I have stopped losing weight on it a week ago(haven't gained any either) but that could be purely because I introduced meat into the diet.So I am going to be really strict for this last week before my op.

Got the bill today too. $300 more than I expected so budget is going to be strained. I just hope I don't have a hernia so they can refund that money to me.

Hi all, well like you all, the time is coming around very quickly.  The 11th for me in Launceston Tas, for my lapband.  I too have been cheating a bit on my optifast but not too naughty.  Not sure how much I have loss but will find out tomorrow when I see Dr Pande for presurgical apt. Startied to get pick up few items at shopping tonight for after the surgery. Was struggling a bit as not to sure what to get.  Remembered a few things from the old postings like up n gos, drinking yoghurts, V8 juice, apple juice. Any other ideas and I think I remember the dr saying clear fluids for a while. Karen

Hi Everyone, I just found this site so this is my first post.  I've been on my optifast for nearly 2 weeks and have lost 4 kg.  I'm off to have my band fitted on Friday by Dr Paul Anderson on Friday. Good luck to everyone having their surgery - we must be nuts having it done this close to.
Cheers

Hi Kaz,
Ibought benefibre for constipation, just in case (less than $20 at chemist) and sustagen hospital powder, about the same price.  I have read and made notes that in the fluid stage for 2 weeks post op we should have:
1 multivitamin, liuid, soluble or tablet if tolerated
sustagen hospital formula....1 per day
optifast shake....1 per day
120ml of fruit juice
100ml of drinking yoghurt
1 cup v8 juice
1 cup thin, strained stock or soup
water

I cannot remember my source but I think it would be reliable or I would not have made note of it.
I think it looks like commom sense too to get all the nutrients we will need.
I wish you and all other Dec bandits all the best on the BIG day and during recovery.
Hope this helps you, but I am not an expert!

Hi all, Nikkiii here.  I was to be banded as well as have my Gall Bladder removed in January BUT after having yet another Gall Bladder attack (NOT nice) I have been brought forward and am now having my Op on December 14th.  Needless to say I am both excited and nervous.  How will I get through Christmas Day with my family (who don't know about the banding but do know about the Gall Bladder OP)?  The only person who knows is my best friend who is very supportive :)  Good luck to everyone who is starting their journey this month.  It is great to read all the posts and to see how everyone is going. Nikkiii :)

I'm so depressed!  I went to my presurgical apt today with Dr Pande and he told me he can't get another anaesthetist as the one who he booked has had to go home as his mother has past away.  I don't mean to sound awful but the  bloody system sucks.  No backup person available!  I was so mentally preparing myself for my procedure but now have to wait to Feb '11.  Have to stop my optifas and start all over again in another 2 mths.  On a positive note, I loss 6.4kg.  Feel better but feel so disappointed.  Thanks for your info Dee

Hi everyone - on my third day of Optifast. Going OK so far - paid deposit for surgery today which hurt!! I have the knife, fork & spoon book (she's my dietician) and that has some great variations on the vege recipes which prevents boredom.
Nikkii, I reckon you just have to make up excuses re your gall bladder as to why you can't eat on Christmas Day. Keep helping to organise all the people on the day, and they won't realise you're not eating!! Wendy

Hi everyone. Had a pretty bad day today and fell off the optifast wagon big time after having a pretty good three weeks. I think it was because I was so disappointed with my weight loss. Started at 114kg before optifast. When I was staying at my parents place, their scales said I was 105kg but on returning home and jumping on my scales I was 109kg. A 4kg difference. Totally bummed me out. Plus I had to take the long way to get home (6.5 hours instead of 5 hrs) because of flooding. So totally tired and din't want to go and shop for vegies then prepare something to eat.

Kaz i keeping my fingers crossed all things will go well in february. The other bonus is of course you can have a normal christmas.

Rob, don't be disappointed, as any loss is an acheivement and being on optifast is hard work and the longer you are on it, the harder it gets. My scales are different to the results at the hospital and I was really pretty strict and I only loss 6kgs in 3 weeks so you have done really well.  So keep on track and don't lose faith and soon we will be on our way to healthier us. I am hoping that over the weekend the surgeon will find another anaethesis and will call me on Monday to say all is still on.  He did indicate he was going to try and find another. So I have decided to remain on the optifast until Monday. If it doesn't happen until Feb, I promise to have a fab christmas indulgence for all you beautiful people! x

Hi Everyone, Here I am.  All banded and set for my new life.  Now I've just gotta sip and sip and sip for the next couple of weeks.  All went fairly well but Sleep apnea kept me in hospital for another night for observation.  No pain from wound sites at all (yet)..  Good luck to the rest of you - keep us up to date

Yay Ann - great going!  Hope the pain stays away.  Looking forward to hearing how the next 2 weeks go with the fluids!

I'm on opti for 2 weeks - had the most awful stomach pains and @%&#s last night, but feel better today. Though I'm not all that hungry.  The opti just has that yuk floury after taste, but hey it's only 2 weeks for the rest of my life right!

Rob you're doing fine - it's a major change after all, so don't beat yourself up.  Wendy

Hi Fellow December bandits :-)

I was banded on Dec 1 and am Day 3 post op today.

Still experiencing shoulder/back pain, taking regular pain relief and without appetite. Sip, sip, sip for sure Anna (congrats BTW)

Came back to forum for some reassurance and support and what a huge disappointment to find all the old threads GONE :-(

I have joined the bandingtogether.com.au forum, which I have found very user friendly and informative, in case anyone else was needing a bit more than what was offered here...

10kg down 39 to go.... the journey continues...

Good luck Rob and everyone else for their surgeries!!

I will check back from time to time,

Cheers, Cee

Congrats Ann & Cee!!! Rob don't worry about it opti is very hard. I am on my second and last week as I get banded on Tuesday. First week I was pretty good and lost 4 kilos!!!!!Second week I've only lost 1 kilo I reckon the first week was all fluid. Anyway second week I have been cheating!!!!! In any case as long as we have lost some weight I can't see it being a huge drama as some people don't even do opti at all. Don't know how everybody else is but I'm really scared and I have had moments were I have had doubts. Anyway I think its all normal i just have to bite the bullet....and do it!!!
